Hanging of the Greens – 1975

I remember well when my young faith crystallized… leaving the enveloping warmth of the sanctuary and stepping out into the chilled, quiet night; the muffled sound of carols from the church; the glow of the stain glass windows; the smell of fresh pine; thinking of my family inside, all was right with my world…

Baby Jesus’ birthday party downstairs; the sweet smell of cake and hot chocolate; the palpable excitement of the kids, absolutely beside themselves; hearing those words, those incredible words!… “and she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”  Yes! Now I finally get it, I feel it, I understand it with all my soul… I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and my personal Savior.
