Imagine my shock when, a little over two years ago, I was asked to fill in for an Elder who had resigned. Why me? Did I have the qualifications that an Elder needed to possess?… Unwavering faith – nope. Knowledge of the Bible – limited. Leadership – sketchy. Ability to pray aloud at the drop of a hat – Ha! Nevertheless, here I am today, knee deep in all that being an Elder entails. Why? Because of faith. Someone had faith in me, and I learned to have more faith in myself. By stepping out of that comfort zone in the pews, I have drawn closer to God. I have felt His presence more in my life by committing to this Elder role. One day, you may be asked to do the same. And, like me, you may feel unqualified. If so, trust God. He has quite a bit of experience dealing with those who felt unqualified… Mary, Moses, Daniel, David, Joseph, etc.

“I am not a warrior, I’m too afraid to lose.
I feel unqualified for what you’re calling me to.
But Lord, with Your strength, I’ve got no excuse,
Because broken people are exactly who You use.”
(From the song, “Confidence” by Sanctus Real)

“Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” ~ Hebrews 11:6
