Advertising jingles and phrases, as annoying as a buzzing fly, often affect our attitudes. For me, the above does it.
But one day as I was washing windows in the nice November weather, the peace of the moment started me humming. I admired the powder blue sky, clustered with “mashed potato” clouds (that’s how I always describe them), the blue birds that had recently found our new blue bird box, and our large sassafras grove that I love to look out at. What a change – my mundane task uplifted my spirits, and started me humming again!
If the advertisements of the season sour your attitude, take time out – even during your mundane tasks – to focus on the love of God. As Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things
Dear God, Help me to always have the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control on my mind, in my heart, and visible through my actions. Amen.
