“Letting go of my worries
And my need to control things
I’m gonna take You at Your word and
I’m gonna lay down all my burdens…”
~ lyrics by Jason Gray
Sometimes you have to let go to step up. In this season there are lots of things to let go of – like the worries of getting ready for the holidays: who to buy for, what to buy, how to pay for it, who is coming over, what food to fix…. Sometimes we have to let go of these worries and just do the one thing God asks of us – love.
This time of year is hard for some people. We don’t always know what people are going through. Sometimes holidays are a joy, but sometimes they’re a struggle. For some, the season is sad and lonely. For others, it may be overwhelming and stressful.
Stop and think about the part you can fill in showing God’s love to others this season. Can you help anyone who is struggling? Can you visit anyone who is lonely? Can you share from your abundance with someone who has little? Maybe you’re retired and you have abundant time – what a gift! Maybe you have extra room at your table and you can include those who would be alone. Or perhaps you are one in need and God asks you to be open to His love when someone offers.
Let go… and step up.
“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” ~ Matthew 6:25-26
