Joy In the Little Things

I think there is a poem, I’m not sure who wrote it, that goes something like, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” Those words made me think about all the ways I love Jesus, the Son of our living God. He took our sins and died for us so that whoever takes Him as their personal Savior would have everlasting life in Heaven. And that’s just the beginning of the joy and pleasure of being a child of God.

When I look at children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, I see miracles and blessings and hope for a better future. I know there are troubles in everyone’s life, but faith that’s strong and steady, and constant talking with God, will help to bear the troubles.

There are as many little things that make me smile and my heart glad to be alive, so that I thank God every day. Little things like the complete trust of our cat. A cat’s purring shows its happiness, and hearing it purr makes me happy too. Also, the tiny yellow wildflowers in our back yard in the spring makes me feel like “purring!” And the bright red of the burning bushes and the huge bouquet of trees of all colors in the fall – only God could put all these things together in such an amazingly wonderful way.

Then there is the blessing of love, God’s unconditional love. God’s love is more than we can fully understand. There is also the love of family, church family and close friends, which is reassuring when trouble knocks on the door. But just to know that God’s love is constant, that no matter what happens He will always be beside us – it’s like a huge hug.

So, I thank God for the little things, like the purring of my cat and His many, many blessings that bring me joy.
