“Will you be home for Christmas?” This has become a common phrase to hear across the phone line each year. The last few years I have been in transit doing overseas missions. Due to this, when asked the above question, I tend to respond with the usual, “I don’t think I am going to make it this year because of . . . (please insert one of the following: work, cost of airfare, my current location, etc.).” However, EVERY TIME God surprises me with a “way” to return home.
No matter how much time has passed since our last meeting, it is still sweet to see my parents anxiously waiting for me to deplane. It brings tears to my eyes as I sit and wonder if this is how the prodigal son must have felt seeing his father overjoyed, welcoming him home with open arms.
(Read Luke 15:11-32 the story of the prodigal son)
Do you feel lost? Do you know your “way” home? Do you know that God is anxiously waiting to spend time with you? He doesn’t just want your love and attention at Christmas time, but the entire year through!
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” ~ John 14:6
As you pray: Ask God to reveal things (i.e. habits or relationships) in your life that may be keeping you from seeking time alone with Him on a regular basis. We have different priorities in our lives, but spending time reading His Word, worshipping Him, and talking with God should be at the top of your list. If you seek time with Him, your days will be brighter, your cares will be lighter, and your heart will experience a joy and peace that is beyond ALL understanding.
