I always told my children, “Don’t gripe about it, take action!” Nine years ago, at the Honeybee Festival, I was discussing with my mother and aunt how many people were complaining about the lack of things to do uptown at the festival. “SOMEBODY should do something!” is what I heard over and over. The problem was that everyone thought somebody else should “do something”. I kept hearing complaints, but no solutions. The three of us decided to not complain, but to be that “somebody”. The following year, the three of us put our heads together and came up with the first “Build Your Own Scarecrow” booth. We didn’t have a clue what we were doing, but we plunged in and eight years later we have annual customers who support and compliment us on the fun we provide.
As our church continues to change, take part in the decision making. Be open to new thoughts and ideas. “Don’t gripe about it, take action!”
Jesus answered them, “Do not murmur among your yourselves.” ~ John 6:43
Father God, help us to see what You want us to do, and then give us the courage to step out and do it!
