Rev. Michael C. Dixon has been the Senior Minister at the First Christian Church since 1991. After twenty-seven years in the pulpit, Rev. Mike has retired. He preached his last sermon on Sunday, December 20, 2018. We will miss his leadership, creativity, compassion for all, and his loud, cheerful laugh.
Rev. Dixon is married to Peg Dixon and together they have three daughters, three sons-in-law and eleven grandchildren. He loves sports, reading, (especially Westerns), shopping, eating and yard work. The congregation always thought that shopping and yard work are special.
Rev. Dixon graduated from Ball State University and Phillips Theological Seminary. He is involved in the Christian Church in Illinois-Wisconsin, Lakeland Cluster, Regional Committees, and Church Camps as a Counselor and Director. He loved being a part of the fun fellowship activities the church sponsors and working with kids at Vacation Bible School and God’s Gang.
FCC has a search committee working to find someone to fill his shoes. An interim minister will soon be on board.
John Snidle arrived as FCC’s Youth Minister in 2018. In his own words, Pastor John enjoys raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with string . . . “These are a few of my favorite things” . . . along with camping, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, reading and wasting time in front of the TV.
John feels that FCC is full of incredibly generous, loving and welcoming folks! Everyone is eager to serve and build God’s Kingdom. He especially enjoys the youth – “they are a hoot!” He feels very blessed to be part of the FCC family.
Cheryl Clark has been the Office Manager for the First Christian Church since 2003.
Cheryl has five children and six grandchildren.
She enjoys reading, old movies, decorating, country music and horseback riding.
Part of the enjoyment Cheryl has in her joy is working for the Lord and with His people. She enjoys the interaction and relationships formed with those who come to the office, as well as caring for and helping others. She also likes the creativity she can put into flyers announcements, and especially the church news letter, “The Messenger”.
Cheryl attends the Pleasant Hill Christian Church where her father ministered for nearly twelve years. As soon as she learned how to type, she became his secretary. Because of that, she has been a church secretary and now an Office Manager for a long time. She smiles as she says, “let’s just say I was a secretary before home computers!”
Peg Dixon has been the Choir Director of the First Christian Church since 1993. Peg is married to Rev. Michael Dixon and along with him, is retiring from her duties as choir director. We will miss her, especially her very creative Cantatas presented each spring at FCC. Thank you, Peg, for the love and fellowship AND music that you so unselfishly shared with each and every one of us!
Peg enjoys spending time with the family and friends and now being fully retired, will have much more time for her three daughters, three sons-in-law and eleven grandchildren.
Peg graduated from Ball State University with a BS in Elementary Education and a Minor in Music. And you won’t believe this, but she likes the snow!!
Two of FCC’s choir members have come forward to fill the director position on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is found.
Kristin Chittick will be directing the choir during the months of January and February 2019.
She is a Logansport, Indiana native who graduated from the University of Evansville with a degree in Music Therapy. Kristin lived and worked in San Francisco, Houston and Phoenix prior to moving to Paris where she married her husband, John. They have three children, Allana in Washington DC, Nic in Charlotte, North Carolina and Braden who is currently studying abroad in Grantham, England.
As well as being very busy as the Fine Arts Manager of the Paris Center of Fine Arts, Kristin appreciates the value of music in worship whether its singing, playing in the bell choir or listening. “It will be my pleasure to help direct the church choir as our church moves forward through new changes and blessings.”
Barbara Dick will take on the duties of directing the choir in March and April 2019. She is married to David and they have two grown children, Amanda in Hudson, Illinois and Andy in Seymour, Indiana.
Barbara is very involved in our community’s International Thanksgiving Fellowship, P.E.O. and T.O.P.S. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, sewing, walking, traveling and entertaining friends.
She is a long-standing member of the Chancel Choir as well as player and founding director of the Joyful Ringers Handbell Choir. At FCC Barbara is a member of the Koinonia Circle and often subs for God’s Gang. She is grateful for the fellowship with the members of FCC and for the so many opportunities for giving.
Barbara graduated from Millikin University with a degree in music education.
Kathy Peel as been the Organist of the First Christian Church since 1987 and the Bell Choir Director since 2007.
She is married to Tony and together they are the parents of two children, Jamie and Aaron (deceased). She is the grandmother to James and is the daughter of church member Alma Titus.
Kathy enjoys music, reading and babysitting James.
She enjoys the family atmosphere and the support of music used in the worships services at FCC.
Kathy is a graduate of Paris High School, has lived in Paris all her life and works outside the church full time.
Patty Waters took on the duties of financial secretary in 2019.
She and her husband, Gary, own farmland in Elbridge township. Their family includes their son, Chris, and his wife, Brittany.
Patty retired in 2014 after forty years in human resources management. Thirty-seven of those years were at the Bemis Company in Terre Haute. In her spare time, Patty enjoys gardening, deer hunting with her husband and son, reading and working on farm projects. She is also an avid runner.
Patty especially enjoys the friendly, supportive congregation at FCC. She has been a member since 2005. She is appreciative of the church’s involvement in our community and as a result, serves as a volunteer at the Community Kitchen and helps with God’s Gang.
Jim Mathis has been the Assistant Financial Secretary at the First Christian Church since 2012.
He is married to Cindy and they have two children, Megan and Malloree and one grandchild, Taylor. His sisters, Peggy Barath and Coralie Smittkamp are very active members at FCC. He has a brother Bob who lives TN.
Jim loves watching sports and favorite shows on TV, listening to music, being involved in community and church events, politics, Kiwanis and singing in the choir.
Jim has been involved with some aspect of FCC since his childhood. He feels FCC is like an extended family and really enjoys working with the Financial Secretary and the responsibility that is a part of the position.
Jim is retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. He is currently serving as Paris Township Clerk, Precinct Committeeman Paris 10, Secretary of the Kiwanis Club of Paris as well as Advisor to the Paris Kiwanis Aktion Club. He is also Treasurer of the Edgar County Republican Central Committee, Paris and is an International Thanksgiving Fellowship Board member.
Jenny Lynn McMahan began her duties as Nursery Attendant in 2018. Jenny is currently the pre-school teacher for the recently established Pre-School For All extension program at the Paris Memorial School. We are indeed blessed to have her on staff as she is dually licensed in pre-school through 3rd-grade in general education as well as pre-K through 12th-grade special education.
Jenny is married to Joe and they have two sons, Will and Drew. Jenny loves how everyone at FCC treats one another as family. She especially enjoys interacting with the little ones in her job as nursery attendant.
In her spare time Jenny enjoys time with family, playing with her sons, reading, singing and cooking.
Betty Ann Kelly has been a Custodian at First Christian Church since 2014. She and Forest have four children, five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She really enjoys doing things for her church, spending time with the family, going on vacations, music, reading, walking, shopping with her daughters and granddaughters and taking pictures of the grandchildren.
Betty likes her position at FCC because the people are friendly, polite and very helpful. Her job hours are flexible and the working conditions are very clean.
She is a member of Nevins Christian Church, worked at TRW for eighteen and one half years and was employed at Colson’s for ten years. Previously she and her family lived in California for ten years.
Evelyn Harris started as a Custodian for the First Christian Church in 2015. She is married to Frank and they have four sons.
Evelyn collects cookie jars and angels. She has slowed down with the hobby because she has started running out of room. She also enjoys reading, flowers & plants and going to garage sales.
She feels FCC is a beautiful church, and she likes all the people. The hours of the job are great and she really enjoys her work at the church.
Evelyn attends the Nevins Christian Church. She has mostly worked in factories. She retired from TRW, then worked at Walmart and began cleaning houses. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
