How do you face changes in your life? Changes present each of us opportunities for growth. Changes can sometimes be painful, or they may be joyful. The Christmas season represents an excellent time of the year for each of us to face possible changes in our lives, and opportunities for growth based on the gifts we receive (some good, some bad; some big, some small).
I presented my wife (at that point, girlfriend) an engagement ring for Christmas. That’s one way the holiday season of Christmas brought a big change in my life.
Christmas is traditionally a time of giving. Did you always receive the gifts you wanted? If you didn’t, what effect did that have on you? If you received everything you wanted, did you show proper appreciation? If you fail to show appreciation for gifts, does that failure bring about a change in either you or the giver?
Writing this devotional forces me to think back about the many gifts I have received during my lifetime. Did I show proper appreciation to the giver on each occasion, or did my reaction show disappointment?
As we all know, God gave us the biggest and best gift of all when He allowed His Son to die for you and me. How has that fact changed each of our lives? Let us not forget to show God our appreciation today, tomorrow, the whole holiday season, as well as each and every day of the year for this great gift He gave us. This has been the best gift any of us could have possibly received and it lasts forever! How much change and growth have we allowed in our lives from God’s great gift to us?
“And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” ~ Romans 5:3-5
